Let's talk Spring & Summer Family Portraits & what to wear....
These are popular times to be photographed with your family because the weather is finally getting nice with warmer temps & flowers blooming & grass growing. So, what do wear for family portraits & what's the best way to coordinate my family???
- First... let's discuss colors... While it's important for everyone to maintain his/her individuality, you should still coordinate clothing in regards to color palettes. That doesn't mean everyone has to wear the exact same blues or reds. It just means it will look much more pleasing if all clothing stays in the same "family" or "tones" in colors.
- Next... let's visit styles... I always recommend everyone wear jeans or long pants (even if it's warmer outdoors) to give us the most flexibility when posing everyone in the group. Dresses & shorts are ok & we can still work with them, but those clothing choices put some limitations on what we can do with posing.
Tops should be light fabrics & solid colors (for the most part) with at least a short sleeve (preferably longer sleeves) for a more flattering look. I absolutely recommend NO TANK TOPS or sleeveless tops. This will exaggerate the size of your arms/shoulders in your portraits & become very distracting.
- Shoes... Some families like to go barefoot for a more relaxed look to their portraits. If so, you might consider a pedicure... at the very least ladies, make sure your nail polish is freshly done. If you wear shoes, I recommend a very understated loafer or wedge so as not to distract from the look of the portrait. Heels are fine but keep in mind we normally photograph our families outdoor in grassy areas & heels make it difficult to walk or pose. Please NO loud colored bold patterned tennis shoes :D
